Place-based History and Cultural Landscapes in San Francisco and Suzhou
This site gives you access to place-based learning tools created by the architectural and urban historian Jessica Ellen Sewell.
Through the SF SUFFRAGE WALKING TOUR link above you will find a self-guided tour of downtown San Francisco tied to the history of women in turn of the century San Francisco. Jessica Sewell created this tour in connection with her book, Women and the Everyday City (more info available through the ABOUT link above).
Through the link below, you will find Jessica Sewell's most recent place-based learning project, the app Exploring Suzhou, created for the students in Urban Planning and Design at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, in Suzhou, China, where Jessica Sewell is department head. Jessica Sewell created this app with Rebecca Kiddle of the Victoria University of Wellington, NZ; Hai-Ning Liang of XJTLU; Steven Davey; and the XJTLU students Ting Wang, Luwei Chen, and Keyu (Carrie) Chen.
